   Does v4 allow you to combine the dollars and cents fields into just one field?

   No there is no option for that, it is the same as it has always been.

   You can simply use a text box (or Number) field type for a $ value if you don't want to use the actual Amount field type.

   Doesn't have to be a 'price' field to transfer the amount to Stripe for a payment?

   The best I can tell, a field defined as a 'price' must include separate fields for dollars and cents.
