Pop-Up Window - looking for suggestions

We are creating a complex registration form that include long pull-downs that folks must choose classes from. We have a separate page that lists the classes and details about each.
I am trying to figure out how to add a pop window to the pulldown/pulldown text that will open a small pop-up window so folks can scroll through the class list and then close the window to resume filling out the form.
I tried embedding javascript code I code from somewhere but could not get it to work.
I am thinking of trying modal/light-boxes but wanted to know if this will work before I go to all the effort of trying to embed it, since it requires javascript and not sure if this would conflict with MachForms.
Any suggestion? Anybody done something like this? Any plans for future enhancements to MachForms to add buttons that can be programmed?

An additional thought.
I would like to imbed the javascript libraries and CSS into each form created. What file would I edit to add references to libraries needed to ColorBox (http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/).
Does the form header come from includes/header.php or is it generated somewhere else?

Go here and look in the Rate Type Area section. You will see "click here for rates". This opens a window. Is this what you are looking for?

That is exactly what I am looking for and I would be grateful for a few tips as to how to do it!
