PLaceholder text disappears on form error

    HI,

    I have a very small space to use - so I have used placeholders within the form fields instead of using labels.

    I did this by your solutions below;
    value="{$element->default_value}"

    and change it to become:

    placeholder="{$element->default_value}"

    But - if a required field isn't filled out - the placeholders disappear - so the user doesn't know what to enter.

    Is there a way to retain the placeholders?

    I'm on Machform 3.5
