Aligning fields in column mode?

Is it possible to reduce the vertical spacing of fields so that there is no space between them, with the field description on the same line as each field?
I am wanting to build a very long form to look like a database table: that is each field is immediately beneath the preceding field, with the field set as large.
If it is possible, can someone please tell me how it is done.
Thank you

You can edit your CSS form to reduce the space between fields, i've put the modification in here :

You just need to make padding value smaller, and to make your field label description to then same line, you can refer to this post :

Thanks for that ... works fine!!
There is still a gap between the fields vertically. Can this be reduced? Even removed altogether?
I have tried adjusting the padding with - (minus) values but this doesn't seem to make any difference than just 0px. So, perhaps that is the limit??
Would appreciate knowing if further reduction is possible.
Thanks,
